October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic violence affects 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men. This #DVAM, Fond du Lac Area Women’s Fund will share content from NO MORE, our international affiliated partner to our Fond du Lac Says No More initiative.
Throughout the month, NO MORE will share survivors’ stories alongside Speak Your Truth Today, a survivor-centered Facebook group where survivors of all backgrounds can find community and healing by sharing their stories.
NO MORE will also highlight works by Gi Dhanoa, the author of “Poems Exploring the Issues of Domestic Violence: Forgiven Forgotten Sooooo,” a book of poems full of strength and hope that describer her experiences with domestic violence.
Locally, we will share posts from our partners at Solutions Center and SSM Health Domestic Violence Services, as well as the Prevention Education Committee (PEC), which is part of our county’s Domestic Violence Intervention Team (DVIT).
Friends and family of survivors: Believing survivors is one of the first steps we can take to support them. Even when they haven’t disclosed, it’s safe to say everyone knows someone who is affected by domestic violence. #Every1KnowsSome1
